Date of announcement:  January 2023

Her words on her selection:

"My name is Kakshan Mehreen. I have done MS mathematics from COMSAT University Islamabad, Attock campus. After the completion of my master's degree, I applied for foreign scholarships and I got so many rejections. I did not give up and kept struggling. Finally, I was shortlisted for a funded position at Institute for Medical Epidemiology, Biometry, and Informatics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. My research background was in pure mathematics so they gave me a task on the modelling and simulation of agent-based models of epidemics in Python from a recently published paper to test my ability to work in different directions. This work was challenging for me as I didn't know how and from where to start. Luckily, I have been attending online sessions organized by Maths Volunteers so I contacted Sir Wajid Ali and requested for guidance. He is a man who selflessly guided me for almost 3 weeks. Finally, due to his guidance, I got the position. I am very grateful for that. He acted as a bridge to get me to the destination.  I would also wish to join the Maths Volunteers and support students just like I was supported by  the Maths Volunteers team"
